    Description

1956 Ole School Mercury Custom Line Hardtop Coupe
1956 Mercury purchased approximately two years ago from an estate sale. This classic survivor has the original drive train: an eight-cylinder, Y-block, overhead valve, 312cid/220hp engine equipped with a 4 barrel carburetor mated to its original tranny with a 3-on-the-tree shifter.
This long lavish coupe carries the famous 1950s Mercury low-silhouette styling into the Custom Line which was, and continues to be, popular among customizers, which makes this particular model difficult to find in an almost stock condition. Both the exterior and interior are in very good condition, with all the bright work in excellent condition and the red and white interior having been redone. The beautiful red body with “hooded” headlights and mild pin striping is offset by the white top and the 15” whitewall wall tires. All this combined with the era correct continental kit (aftermarket) and “sombrero custom wheel covers, give this Mercury a stunning appearance.
The car runs and drives great, and looks great, making it a very desirable cruiser. Because the car is an unmolested survivor, routine maintenance will keep this car road worthy for years to come.
The prior owner started a frame on restoration but it was never finished due to unexpected circumstances. While the exterior and interior are in good shape for the age of the car, the undercarriage is un-restored and has areas needing attention such as the floor pans, the left rocker and the rear cross member as shown in the accompanying pictures. The transmission and driveshaft tunnel look good as noted in the pictures.
As a result of a detailed inspection, the Ebay reserve price has been reduced.
I would like to keep the car, however I must free up some much needed space in my garage.
