  • Condition: Stunning pair of Meoto Yumomi porcelain lidded teacups with a Black ship design. The design was inspired by an observation of Dutch traders and their large sailing boats known as “Black Ships”. They are pedestal cups with a double blue line circle on the outside of the pedestal and a single blue circle inside the pedestal. They are also marked on the bottom. They have a ship and wave design on two sides and a floral and Karakusa or winding plant gold line design on the remained of the cups. The background is a dark red. The lids are designed in much the same way with a ship, waves, flowers and winding plant lines. They are is very good condition. There are tiny areas of red and gold paint loss consistent with use and age. There is also a tiny dot of white paint on the lid of the smaller cup that I believe to be artist error and not damage. The smaller one measures 3.5” high with the lid on and 2.25” in diameter and the larger one measures 4” high with the lid on and 2 & 7/8th” in diam.
