BASIL II Byzantine Emperor
976 -1025 A.D.
During his 50-year reign he oversaw the stabilization of the Byzantine Empire as it stretched from the boot of Italy, north to Bulgaria, through all of Greece, much of Turkey and into northern Syria.
The state treasury was at its fullest in centuries and its borders were secure.
Childless, his younger brother, Constantine VIII, succeeded him to the Byzantine throne.
The coin featured here has a legend contained in four lines:

Byzantine Anonymous Coins
On these coins the emperor’s name and portrait are not part of the design, hence their designation as anonymous.
Instead of an “earthly king”, these coins depict Christianity’s “King of Kings”, Jesus Christ.
On these coins Christ is often shown seated and facing the camera surrounded by a nimbate.
He wears or holds a combinations of things like; nimbus cruciger, palladium, colobium, Gospels, and crosses.
The reverse of these coins depict many different kinds of features and/or legends.
