Description

Set of six different fluorescent minerals; with long- and/or shortwave uv response. Here's what is included (see photographs): photo1 - All six specimens under short wave ultraviolet light; , photo 2 - All six under long wave uv; photo 3 - All six under incandescent light; photo 4 - Green fluorescent chalcedony from Mexico under short wave (no long wave response); photo 5 - fluorite and willemite from the Red Cloud Mine, La Paz County, AZ, under long wave uv (only the fluorite fluoresces); photo 6 - the same fluorite and willemite specimen, this time under short wave uv. Both minerals fluoresce, but the fluorite is less bright than under long wave, and the willemite now fluoresces a greenish white color (although the photo doesn't show this very well). Photo 7 shows a manganapatite and black schorl tourmaline on feldspar, from Mt Apatite, Auburn, ME. There is another, unknown mineral present which fluoresces green along with the bright yellow fluorescing manganapatite (short wave). At first I though it might be autunite, which occurs at this site, but it isn't because it's not radioactive. This specimen gives no response to long wave uv. Photos 8 and 9 show a transparent piece of selenite which has a weak response (white) under short wave uv (8) and a strong response under long wave (9). Photo 10 is of a piece of scheelite from Cochise, AZ, which only fluoresces under short wave uv. The final two photos, 11 and 12 show a calcite, willemite and franklinite specimen from Franklin, NJ. Photo 11 shows the red (appears more orange in the photo) fluorescing calcite and the green fluorescing willemite under short wave uv, while photo 12 shows the much weaker response under long wave uv.The chalcedony measures about 3.5" x 2.5" x 1". The fluorite and willemite specimen measures about 2.5" x 1.25" x .75". The manganapatite is about 2.25" x 1.5" x 1.25". The selenite is about 2" x .75" x .25". The scheelite measures about 2" x 1.5" x .75" and the calcite with willemite is about 1.75" x 1" x 1".Shipped with USPS First Class.
